SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. RISK...Elevated. AREA...Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. ONSET...Ongoing. HEAVY RAIN. RISK...Limited. AREA...Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. ONSET...Ongoing. SIGNIFICANT WINDS. RISK...Limited. AREA...Northeast Oklahoma. ONSET...Ongoing. DISCUSSION... Thunderstorm chances spread southward across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas today as a frontal boundary moves into and through the region. Limited to locally elevated severe potentials are forecast along and near the front through late afternoon, with large hail and locally damaging wind the main threats. The greater potential for storms and also severe potentials are across far eastern Oklahoma as well as northwest Arkansas. Locally heavy rainfall is also a concern with the stronger storms. Behind the frontal passage, gusty northerly winds are forecast across northeast Oklahoma. Thunderstorm chances remain overnight tonight for mainly southeast Oklahoma into western Arkansas while the frontal boundary sags south through region. Severe potentials are expected to weaken through the evening hours. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT... Local Spotter Activation May Be Needed. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday. MONDAY...No Hazards. TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY...Thunderstorm Potential. THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...No Hazards. EXTENDED DISCUSSION... Shower and thunderstorm chances continue across southeast Oklahoma Monday morning and should taper off Monday afternoon once an elevated frontal boundary moves south of the Red River. Additional shower and thunderstorm chances return Tuesday into Wednesday with another weak area of low pressure sliding southeast through the Southern Plains. At this time, the greater thunder potential looks to be Tuesday night into Wednesday across southeast Oklahoma. Severe weather is not anticipated Tuesday and Wednesday. Cooler conditions spread into the region today behind the frontal boundary and should remain common for the first half of the week.
