...NWS Damage Survey for 08/19/2024 Tornado Event north of Warren
Peak in the Bear Lodge Mountains...

.Overview...In the afternoon of August 19 2024, a supercell
thunderstorm developed over northeast Wyoming, causing extensive
wind and hail damage as it tracked directly over Devils Tower
National Monument. As the storm tracked a bit further east, a rain
wrapped tornado developed early in the evening about half way
between Hulett and Warren Peak in the Bear Lodge Mountains. Numerous
pine trees were either uprooted or snapped in half along a path just
over 2.5 miles long. The estimated damage width was over 1/4 mile in
some areas, although some of this damage on the southern edge of the
tornado was more consistent with straight line winds, so the
estimated maximum tornado width was 300 yards. The tornado was on
the ground for approximately 10 minutes with a speed of
approximately 15 to 20 mph.
