It proved to be a water-logged Labor Day in 1989 for parts of Eastern Nebraska, as numerous thunderstorms drenched the area with torrential rains that morning. Amounts reached nearly 7 inches in the village of Creston, located about 60 miles northwest of Omaha. Rivers and creeks obviously rose to the occasion, causing widespread flooding of fields, county roads and streets. && In 1970, the worst natural disaster in Arizona`s history occurred when hideous flash flooding raged through the central part of the Grand Canyon State. Record rainfall caused rivers to rise a staggering 5 to 10 FEET PER HOUR that swept buildings and vehicles 30 to 40 MILES DOWNSTREAM. Workman Creek measured 11.40 inches of rain in 24 hours to set a state record. The flooding caused an estimated $3 million damage and claimed 23 lives. Moisture from Pacific Tropical Storm Norma provided the ultra high octane fuel for the thunderstorms that resulted. $$ Auto
