It was a warm spring across all of the NWS Charleston forecast area. The spring season encapsulates the period of March 1st through May 31st. Mean temperatures for the 2024 spring season were generally 2.5 to 4.5 degrees above normal. This translated into all six official NWS Charleston climate locations making the top 5 in terms of their warmest mean spring temperatures on record, along with several also making their top 10 in terms of least snowy springs on record. Please see the following two paragraphs for a breakdown on the specific rankings. Mean temperatures are in degrees Fahrenheit. Clarksburg, WV had a mean temperature of 57.4, while Elkins, WV had 54.9, both tying 2012 for their warmest spring on record! Beckley, WV had a mean temperature of 55.9, while Huntington, WV had 60.7, resulting in both having their second warmest spring on record. Parkersburg, WV had its third warmest spring on record with a mean temperature of 58.0. Finally, Charleston, WV had its 4th warmest spring on record with a mean temperature of 59.6. Huntington, WV recorded a trace of snow throughout this spring, tying (with numerous other years) for the 2nd least snowy spring on record. Charleston, WV recorded a trace of snow throughout this spring, tying (with numerous other years) for the 4th least snowy spring on record. Finally, Elkins, WV recorded 1.8 inches of snow throughout this spring, tying 1903 for the 8th least snowy spring on record. $$ GW
