SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. RISK...Limited. AREA...Northeast Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. ONSET...Mainly late tonight. DANGEROUS HEAT. RISK...Significant. AREA...Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. ONSET...Ongoing. DISCUSSION... Dangerous heat continues across the region this afternoon with heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees common. There is still a slight chance for an isolated thunderstorm or two across portions of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas through early evening. Overall precipitation coverage will be very limited at best. A thunderstorm complex will likely move into far northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas late tonight into Wednesday morning from the north. Locally damaging winds will be possible in the stronger bow segments, along with brief heavy rainfall. Thunderstorm chances will be confined mainly along and east of Highway 75 Wednesday morning. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT... Local Spotter Activation May Be Needed. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday. WEDNESDAY...Thunderstorm and Dangerous Heat Potential. THURSDAY...Dangerous Heat Potential. FRIDAY through SUNDAY...Thunderstorm and Dangerous Heat Potential. MONDAY...Dangerous Heat Potential. EXTENDED DISCUSSION... An extended period of dangerous heat is forecast to continue through the upcoming weekend. Heat stress impacts may steadily intensify given the long duration of hot and humid conditions. Localized and brief breaks from the heat area possible due to thunderstorms on Wednesday and again over the weekend.
