Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
358 AM CDT Tue Jun 11 2024

Today:

A quiet start to the day, with early morning temperatures in the mid
50s to low 60s, along with light winds out of the southeast under
partly to mostly cloudy skies.

A frontal boundary currently over western Iowa will continue to bring
the chance for light rain and a possible weak storm or two this
morning into the early afternoon. Some additional development of
showers and storms are possible over northeastern Iowa late this
afternoon to early evening, with the potential for a strong to severe
storm or two. The main hazards would be gusty winds and hail. Highs
today are expected to warm with values through the 80s, along with
slightly breezy southwest winds gusting to 20-25 mph.

Tonight and beyond:

Skies turn mostly clear tonight, with winds turning light and
overnight lows falling into the upper 50s to mid 60s.

Dry conditions are expected into the afternoon Wednesday, before a
front dropping into the state brings the next chance for showers and
storms into Wednesday evening through early Thursday. Strong to severe
storms are possible, especially over northern Iowa, with gusty winds
and hail the main threats, though a tornado or two cannot be ruled
out. This active period is expected to continue Thursday, with
additional strong to severe storms possible in southern to eastern
Iowa in the afternoon to evening. Dry conditions return Friday before
more chances for showers and storms return this weekend. Temperatures
will be very warm at times throughout the week, with highs generally
in the 80s to mid 90s.
