270 FXUS65 KGGW 192033 AFDGGW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Glasgow MT 233 PM MDT Thu Sep 19 2024 .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGES: - Winds will diminish this evening with seasonable weather expected through the weekend, albeit cooler this weekend. A Lake Wind Advisory is set to expire at 6 PM. - An upper ridge builds in next week with a return to above normal temperatures. WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: Northeast Montana was on the back edge of a departing storm system this afternoon. Expect winds to diminish quickly early this evening. With clear skies and ample soil moisture, patchy fog cannot be ruled out in some of the river valleys. The next system will be in the form of a surface low that moves east across southern Saskatchewan Friday. NW winds will increase late in the day as a mostly dry cold front drops in. Precipitation chances look low late Friday and confined to our far northern zones. One more shortwave slides through the region on Monday with showers generally across central Montana. Behind this wave, the upper ridge rebounds with temperatures returning to above normal levels. FLIGHT CONDITIONS: VFR DISCUSSION: Clear skies and light winds this evening will continue into Friday morning. An approaching cold front will kick up West winds Friday afternoon that will switch to NW Friday evening. Some mid- level clouds will accompany the front as well.
