823 FXUS65 KGGW 250901 AFDGGW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Glasgow MT Issued by National Weather Service Billings MT 301 AM MDT Wed Sep 25 2024 .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGES: - Much warmer than normal temperatures continue through the weekend, although slightly cooler than near record levels today. - Dry conditions are expected overall. WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: An upper ridge will move east into the Northern Plains today. This will bring a warm airmass northward to enable widespread highs near or exceeding 90 degrees across the CWA. Daily records will be challenged through tonight for both the daytime high and nighttime lows. A couple of shortwaves and weak cold fronts that move through the region will attempt to break down the ridge. The first of these waves will slide through on Thursday, coming through dry with gusty northwest winds behind a cold front. This front will make for elevated fire weather conditions for Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will continue with a general downward trend early next week with a mostly zonal flow pattern emerging. Rain chances look minimal late in the period with an unfavorable pattern for maintaining moisture across the mountains. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Temperature spread increases for late in the week with uncertainty regarding positioning of west coast trough and track of shortwaves ejecting from said trough. The high model uncertainty is resulting in around a 10 degree range from the 25th to 75th percentiles by Saturday. There is high confidence in temperatures before then and no widespread wetting rain occurring through the middle of next week. && .AVIATION... FLIGHT CONDITIONS: VFR. DISCUSSION: An upper ridge moving over the area will provide for mainly clear skies with just a few high level clouds. WINDS: South at 10-15 knots, becoming 5-10 knots this evening. && .GGW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ weather.gov/glasgow
