287 NOUS43 KGLD 261201 PNSGLD Public Information Statement National Weather Service Goodland KS 600 AM MDT Mon Aug 26 2024 ...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY... In 2002, thunderstorms developed rapidly in Dundy and Hitchcock counties in southwest Nebraska, with reports of softball size hail, 87 mph winds and a tornado. For the next six hours, a small cluster of thunderstorms approximately two counties wide continued to produce violent weather across western Kansas. A 91 mph wind gust was reported at the Bird City airport and a 96 mph gust was measured 4 miles east of Kanorado. Further east, flash flooding occurred in Rawlins, Thomas and Logan counties in Kansas. The city of Colby closed roads for a few hours which were made temporarily impassible due to high water and debris. $$
