.DISCUSSION...

A dry southwest flow will be aloft today with high pressure
slightly weakening due to a shortwave trough passing over
Northern California. High temperatures today will lower to the
mid to upper 90`s at the warmest locations and slightly lower
into Thursday. The probability of highs reaching at least 95
degrees for this afternoon is around 30 to 60 percent at
locations mainly south of Fresno County while higher for the
Kern County desert. Triple digits are unlikely in our forecast
area today, except in the Indian Wells Valley, or
Ridgecrest/Inyokern, where there is up to a 20 percent chance.
Otherwise, expect another warm, dry today and for the next
several days.

Another warming trend is in store for Friday and Saturday due to
the ridge of high pressure rebuilding. The probabilities of
readings at or above 95 degrees rise a bit, at least in the
Central Valley, including around 40 to 65 percent chance on
Friday and 50 to 80 percent chance on Saturday. There is a
decent probability for a return of triple digits towards
northeastern Kern County on Friday and Saturday (about 40 to 60
percent).

Much lower chances for readings in the mid-90`s occur Sunday
into Monday, however, the likelihood rebounds on Tuesday and
next Wednesday, just in time for October. The ridge will once
again strengthen by the middle of next week, so expect at least
one more minor warmup. The warm, dry pattern continues through
the foreseeable future, while relative humidity will be low in
the afternoons along with poor to moderate overnight recoveries
in the mountain and desert areas. Winds will be generally light
with some local afternoon breezes over some of the ridgetops.
