We finally begin to dry out today as drier air begins to filter
into the area from the north and east (ironically thanks to the
flow over the Appalachians around Potential TC 8 along the SC/NC
coast). Doppler radar shows a few light returns underneath the
lingering cloud cover in northwest Alabama, but this should fall
mostly as virga and dissipate completely by the afternoon.
Continued erosion of the cloud shield should continue into the
afternoon, with mostly clear conditions actually developing over
the northeastern 2/3 of the area late in the day. This should
allow temperatures to climb back into the mid 80s in most
locations (with lower 80s more likely in the Bankhead National
Forecast where cloud cover will persist longer).

(Tonight through Thursday)

Little change in the overall synoptic pattern is expected through
much of the week, keeping dry conditions in the forecast through
at least Thursday. H85 temps will warm slightly in conjunction to
a slight eastward shift of an upper ridge situated over the
eastern Plains. This will help temperatures rise by a few degrees
each day, with highs in the upper 80s by Thursday and overnight
lows in the low to mid 60s. With clear skies expected overnight
and saturated soils due to recent rainfall, expect to see at least
patchy fog each night.

(Thursday night through Sunday)

The upper ridge will shift even farther east by Friday, and will
result in temps nearing 90 degrees as we head into the weekend.
At the sfc, high pressure will sink southeast through the Ohio
Valley and will further enforce a dry forecast through Sunday.
The next feature to watch will be an upper low that will shift
west into SC and GA by the end of the weekend, and could result
in an increase in clouds. Low level northeasterly flow will also
result in slightly cooler temperatures on Sunday, topping out in
the low to mid 80s. Overnight lows will range from the low to mid
60s each night.

VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF period with cloud
cover clearing from east to west. Winds will be generally from
the east with occasional gusts to 14kts at times this afternoon.
Patchy fog is possible toward the end of the TAF period, but
confidence is too low to include at this time.
