In 1989, afternoon and evening severe thunderstorms tore through Southeast Nebraska, Northern and Eastern Kansas, as well as Missouri. Baseball sized hail bombarded areas a few miles south of Belleville Kansas, while tennis ball sized hail pummeled areas just south of Lincoln Nebraska. && In 2020, Hurricane Laura crashed ashore near Cameron Louisiana at near peak intensity. Laura packed sustained winds of 150 mph and minimum pressure 937 millibars. This made Laura a high end category 4 hurricane, just 7 mph below the category 5 rating on the Saffir-Simpson Scale and ties Hurricane Rita as 15th most intense hurricane ever to strike the United States. Ironically, Hurricane Rita made landfall just 10 miles further west at Holly Beach Louisiana on the 18th of September 2005. Hurricane Laura rampaged through Southwest Louisiana for most of the 27th of August with its 150 mph winds and a 15 foot storm surge. This horrendously powerful storm caused more than $8.9 billion dollars in damage and left approximately 4 million without power for several weeks. Sadly, Hurricane Laura caused 69 fatalities, 34 of them in the United States with the rest occurring in the Bahamas and the Lesser and Greater Antilles. $$ Auto
