...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1988, the furnace was turned up full throttle across
the Central and Eastern United States, where 52 cities
set record highs for the date.The 104 degree high in
Cleveland Ohio and the 100 degree mark in Erie
Pennsylvania were all time records for both cities.

In 1987, muggy Miami was even more so when they were in
the midst of a hideous heat wave by even their standards.
The afternoon high reached 97 degrees, which set a
record for the date.  It was the third of six consecutive
days of record heat in Miami.  In 1988, extremely
dangerous severe thunderstorms tore through parts of
Southern Idaho with gusts that reached around 100 mph and
where 29 people were injured.
