...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1921, a "weakening" tropical depression unloaded
38.20 inches of rain on the town of Thrall in Southeast
Texas where 224 people died.  Of the rainfall total, 36.4
inches fell in 18 HOURS! In comparison, Wichita`s NORMAL
ANNUAL rainfall is 32.64 inches.  Thrall is located 35
miles northeast of Austin.

In 1944, the Great Atlantic Hurricane invaded the East
Coast.In the Chesapeake Bay Area, 22 people died and
$63 million damage occurred.  Adjusted for inflation,
this would equate to around $934 million.  The hurricane
then invaded New England where it killed 390 more and
caused around another $100 million damage which equates
to around $1.48 billion dollars today.
