849 FNUS53 KILX 200740 FWFILX Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central/Southeast Illinois National Weather Service Lincoln IL 240 AM CDT Thu Jun 20 2024 .DISCUSSION... The heat will intensify the rest of this week across central and southeast IL, with hot and humid conditions lingering into Sunday. Heat indices will soar into the mid 90s to around 100 degrees each afternoon, and be highest on Friday and Saturday afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible north of I-72 this afternoon and early evening, and north of Peoria Friday and Saturday afternoon. A better chance of showers and thunderstorms will arrive from the northwest during Saturday night as a cold front approaches the IL river valley. Southwest winds will be 5 to 10 mph today and Friday, and increase to breezy levels on Saturday. Fair to poor ventilation rates are expected today across the area, with fair to good vent rates on Friday in central IL and poor vent rates in southeast IL. Vent rates improve to good to very good levels on Saturday with stronger winds and higher mixing heights.
