Supercell thunderstorms initiated across the southern Panhandle of Nebraska on the evening of May 23, 2024, along the intersection of a cold front and dryline. These storms quickly strengthened as the moved east into southwest Nebraska, producing multiple tornadoes near Lake McConaughy and in Keith county. These storms were also responsible for significant damaging winds and large hail as they moved through southwest Nebraska.
