758 FXUS64 KLCH 222039 AFDLCH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 339 PM CDT Sat Jun 22 2024 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE... .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Monday night) Issued at 319 PM CDT Sat Jun 22 2024 Surface high pressure is centered over us, and we are seeing temperatures in the low to mid 90s. The good news is dew points are only in the lower 70s, so no oppressive heat today. Heat indices are only in the upper 90s to 102 F. The radar is quiet with no rain indicated. High pressure will start shifting further to our east Sunday into Monday, and with that, our surface winds will have more of an onshore component, which will aid in raising our dew points. Higher dew points means higher heat indices, unfortunately. We will be approaching heat advisory criteria on Monday, primarily in central Louisiana and east Texas. Precipitation-wise, there is a small 20 to 30 percent chance for thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday, with the Acadiana region the most likely area to see the few storms. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday through next Friday) Issued at 319 PM CDT Sat Jun 22 2024 Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast Tuesday through Friday, with higher chances around Lafayette (30-50%), and lower chances near Beaumont (20%). This will be a persistent pattern through the week. Temperatures will run 2 to 5 degrees above normal, in the low to mid 90s throughout the week, with the higher temperatures from Jasper to Alexandria (95-98 F), and lower along the I-10 corridor from Beaumont to Lake Charles and Lafayette (91-93 F). && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1225 PM CDT Sat Jun 22 2024 Aviation-wide we are seeing a ceiling in the 4500 ft range, and that will continue through the afternoon. I have not added any patchy fog for Sunday morning yet, that will be re-evaluated later this afternoon. && .MARINE... Issued at 319 PM CDT Sat Jun 22 2024 Tides will be running above normal through this weekend thanks to disturbed weather in the Gulf. A coastal flood advisory goes out through Sunday, but may need to be extended into Monday. The only coastal flooding we are expecting is in coastal fields, parks, and roads, with only isolated road closures expected during high tide. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
