Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Elko NV
143 AM PDT Sat Sep 21 2024

.SYNOPSIS...Skies will remain mostly sunny through the weekend as
upper ridging builds into the area. This will bring quiet and dry
conditions through the end of the next week. Winds will be
occasionally breezy during the afternoons.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Today through Sunday. It is a very quiet night
across northern and central Nevada this morning. Mid and high
clouds can be seen in central Nevada while the rest of the
forecast area is under mainly clear skies. For today, upper level
low pressure will continue its eastward slide across
Arizona and across the four corners area. Upper level ridging will
be in control of the weather through the short term for the area.
Highs will generally be in the 70s in the afternoon with overnight
lows in the 30s and 40s. Skies will be mostly sunny and the
weather will be dry with occasional gusts in the 20 mph range in
the short term.

.LONG TERM...Monday through next Friday

Look for more fair weather throughout the week as an upper level
ridge begins to move and strengthen over the western U.S. as the
off-cut-low heads further east leaving more stable atmosphere and
sunshine. High temperatures start off cool in the 70s across the
region on Monday with a slight warming trend over Tuesday and
Wednesday, making highs reach back into the upper 70s and 80s,
followed by a slight cooling trend for the rest of the week,
keeping temperatures in the 70s and low 80s. Overnight lows will
see slight changes in temperatures as well but stay in the 40s to
low 50s throughout the week. Winds Monday expected to be breezy
from the northwest at 15-20 mph over northeastern Elko County,
light everywhere else. Winds for the rest of the week will be
light at 10 mph or lower.

&&

.AVIATION...VFR condtions expected at all terminals over the next
24 hour period. HZ conditions over KELY could lower to MVFR.
Elevated winds for all terminals up to 10 kts with gusty winds up
to 18-20 kts for KTPH and KWMC.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...Upper level ridging will bring quiet weather
conditions across the fire district through the weekend and into
next week. Temperatures will be seasonable with afternoon gusts in
the 20s mph range. Minimum relative humidity values will be at or
above the 10 to 20 percent range.
