386 FXUS65 KLKN 220853 AFDLKN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 153 AM PDT Sun Sep 22 2024 .SYNOPSIS...Quiet and dry weather will round out the weekend and begin the next work week in the Silver State. Ridging and ultimately a large high pressure dome build over the west coast and will be the focal point of a warmer, drier weather pattern for the next week. Afternoon high temperatures Sunday and Monday will warm a degree or two each day into the upper 70s. Under starry skies overnight lows will dip down into the upper 30s and lower 40s through Tuesday morning. && .SHORT TERM...Atmospheric ridging on upper level model charts is building into the SW CONUS from the west Sunday morning. Northerly flow across the area will continue through Monday afternoon in the eastern flank of a large dome of high pressure strengthening over the Pacific Ocean. The HPC will move onshore Monday afternoon and evening over the Pacific NW and turn flow aloft more easterly for the region by Tuesday morning. Increasing heights under the ridge will top out at around 588 in the center of the high by 12z Tuesday on the 500-mb map will help to slowly increase temperatures a couple of degrees every afternoon from the upper 70s Sunday into the 80s by mid week. The atmospheric setup is not conducive to any moisture availability and no shower or convective activity is anticipated in the area through Tuesday morning. .LONG TERM...Tuesday through next Saturday. All models are depicting an upper ridge over the western United States with a center of circulation in east-central Nevada. A weak trough will be off the southwest coast of California. Through the mid portions of next week, the ridge will be over the west. This will keep northern and central Nevada with mainly dry and quiet weather. High temperatures each afternoon will be in the 70s on Tuesday, warming into the 70s and 80s by Wednesday and lasting through the week. Overnight lows will cool into the 40s for the most part. Winds will pick up each afternoon with gusts in the 20s mph range with the strongest gusts on Wednesday. && .AVIATION...VFR conditions continue at all TAF sites through the next 24 hour period with light winds expected. && .FIRE WEATHER...Under high pressure well into next week thunderstorm activity for all zones is not anticipated. Temperatures will gradually warm a degree or two each afternoon from the upper 70s on Sunday into the mid to upper 80s by mid week. Warm and dry conditions will help to drop afternoon relative humidity values below 15% though lack of appreciable sustained winds or wind gusts will keep elevated fire weather concerns to a minimum through mid week. && .LKN Watches/Warnings/Advisories...
