Starting in three weeks on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the National
Weather Service (NWS) Baltimore/Washington Weather Forecast Office
in Sterling, Virginia will begin issuing Record Event Reports (RERs)
for Charlottesville (CHO) VA, Hagerstown (HGR) MD, Annapolis (NAK)
MD, and the Baltimore Inner Harbor (DMH) in Baltimore City whenever
a new daily record has been set or established for temperature or
precipitation. The period of record (POR) for each of those sites is
as follows:

Charlottesville (CHO) VA: The period of record (PoR) for
Charlottesville VA will include temperature and precipitation data
back to Jan 1, 1893 when the CHO climate site was established and
located 2 miles west of downtown Charlottesville. Record daily
snowfall data will not be available for this location. The climate
site was moved to the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport on April 20,
1961.

Hagerstown (HGR) MD: The period of record for Hagerstown MD will
include both temperature and precipitation data back to Jan 1, 1899
when the HGR climate site was established and located 1 mile east of
Hagerstown. Record daily snowfall data will not be available for
this location. The climate site was moved to the Hagerstown Airport
on October 1, 1998.

Annapolis (NAK) MD: The period of record for the U.S. Naval Academy
in Annapolis MD (NAK) will include precipitation data back to July
1, 1894 and temperature data back to July 14, 1984. Record daily
snowfall data will not be available for this location.

Baltimore Inner Harbor, Baltimore City, MD The period of record for
the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore City will include both
temperature and precipitation data back to Jul 23, 1950. Record
daily snowfall data will not be available for this location. The
climate site was moved from the Baltimore City Custom House to the
Maryland Science Center on January 1, 1999. Data is missing for more
than a year and a half between June 03, 2020 and August 14, 2022
when the observing system had to be removed due to a large
construction project at the Maryland Science Center.
