Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Little Rock AR
715 PM CDT Tue Jun 18 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Thursday)
Issued at 255 PM CDT Tue Jun 18 2024

An upper level ridge was located over the eastern US, and Arkansas
was on the western edge of it. A bit of light returns have been
moving northward on radar all day long. Some of this has resulted in
very light rainfall, but most areas have seen trace amounts or less.

A look at the LIT sounding this morning shows a considerable amount
of moisture from the surface up to about 250 mb, which has resulted
in considerable cloudiness across much of the state today.

The ridge will strengthen over the eastern US a bit thru the short
term, and dry weather is expected to prevail.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday Night through next Tuesday)
Issued at 255 PM CDT Tue Jun 18 2024

H500 ridging will be in place across much of the southern US through
the period, with the center of the high over AR into the weekend.
This will provide a period of above normal temperatures without any
precip.

By early next week the mid-level ridge become more elongated and is
forced S/SW by a series of shortwaves moving east along the US-
Canada border. This could provide some rain chances to at least
northern parts of the state as a front sinks south toward AR. Attm,
it looks like there won`t be much influence on temperatures early
next week and heat advisories may be required.
