Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pocatello ID
159 PM MDT Thu Jun 20 2024

.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Fri night. A low amplitude trough
will move across the US-CAN border during the day Fri to generate
some afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms along the entire
length of the ID-WY border on Fri/Fri night. Otherwise, just
expect some clouds above the 550mb level for this period, some of
the areas being mostly cloudy at times in the north, but most
locations at partly cloudy/partly sunny, or even some mostly
sunny. Very little in the way of wind, but the persistent
northeast and east surface flow will be shifted by this trough to
southwest and west Fri afternoon. Since the cloud cover is high
clouds, it should not interfere with the strong warming expected,
4 to 8 deg F compared to this Thu afternoon. Do not see anything
that requires headlines for this period. Messick

.LONG TERM...Saturday through Thursday.
Main impacts in the long term will generally be the hot weather
especially over the weekend. Highs will be in the 90s both Saturday
and Sunday in the Snake Plain and Magic Valley with 80s in the
mountains for the most part. Will see some slight cooling Monday
into Wednesday but highs in low elevations remaining in the lower
90s for the most part with mountain highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s.
It will be dry through Tuesday night with the model blend adding in
some slight chances of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday and
Thursday in the eastern highlands and central mountains. Expect
winds to increase substantially Sunday and expect breezy to
occasionally windy conditions Sunday through next Thursday.
