718 FXUS65 KRIW 231754 AFDRIW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Riverton WY 1154 AM MDT Mon Sep 23 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - Seasonable temperatures and dry conditions across the Cowboy State today. - Breezy winds develop this afternoon as a weak cold front moves through the region. - Warm and dry conditions prevail through the remainder of the week with near record high temperatures possible Wednesday- Friday. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 130 AM MDT Mon Sep 23 2024 The first full day of fall will see pleasant weather across the Cowboy State. Temperatures are forecast to be just around seasonable values today. Highs across areas east of the Divide will be in the low to mid 70s while west of the Divide sees values in the upper 60s. A weak cold front will push through the region as a shortwave moves over parts of Montana. The front looks dry with the only impact being a period of breezy winds during the afternoon. Winds will gust around 15 to 25 mph at times as the front moves through during the afternoon/evening, by sunset winds will diminish becoming light through the overnight. Quiet weather is expected to prevail throughout the remainder of the week as an area of ridging builds across much of the Western CONUS. Temperatures are forecast to warm up with above normal values expected for the second half of the week. Some models are showing high temperatures Wednesday-Friday reaching the mid to even upper 80s east of the Divide and upper 70s west of the Divide. Based off current forecasted highs some locations may be within a few degrees of record high values. Ridging looks to persist across the region well into next weekend keeping any disturbances well to the north of the area. Unless models begin to shift, conditions are looking warm and dry as we near the end of September. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z TUESDAY/... Issued at 1153 AM MDT Mon Sep 23 2024 Patchy high cirrus clouds are moving southward across the region, but no low or middle atmosphere clouds are expected over the next 24 hours. A subtle front originating in Montana will drift southward east of the Continental Divide, causing a northerly component to the wind this afternoon and evening; however, no wind gusts over 20 kts are forecast for TAF sites. KBYG will be more favorably positioned for 25 to 35 kt gusts this afternoon, which can already be seen. Winds decrease overnight, and will remain light on Tuesday. && .RIW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ DISCUSSION...Dziewaltowski AVIATION...VandenBoogart
