Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Shreveport LA

...New AVIATION...

.UPDATE...
Issued at 923 PM CDT Sat Jun 22 2024

A few very light showers popping up on radar still, but nothing
that will sustain itself. Satellite imagery is showing a few
clouds across portions of the area, but nothing really to write
home about. Made some minor tweaks to the forecast for tonight,
but the overall theme remained the same.

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Sunday Night)
Issued at 248 PM CDT Sat Jun 22 2024

The hottest temperatures of the year begin now and continue
through the weekend across the Four State Region. Surface ridging
currently over the Mississippi River Valley will continue to
gradually shift westward into the Southern Great Plains and
nearly directly overhead by tomorrow afternoon, boosting
temperature maximums/minimums into the upper 90s (lower 100s)/mid-
to-upper 70s. Light southerly winds and dew points in the upper
60s/lower 70s will maintain muggy outdoor conditions. /16/

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through next Friday)
Issued at 248 PM CDT Sat Jun 22 2024

Dangerous heat will continue through most if not all of next week
across the Four State Region, with some potential for only a
slight reprieve from precipitation. This is due to broad surface
ridging that will slowly drift westward into Texas over the week,
limiting wind speeds to below 10 mph. The wind that does remain
will retain a southerly direction, boosting dew points into the
low-to-mid 70s through the week. That alone will set the stage for
dangerous heat, especially given the cumulative nature of heat
stress and higher temperatures overnight allowing less relief.
Temperature maximums will reach the upper 90s/lower 100s (with
heat indices in the 105-110 range), while temperature minimums
will only fall into the upper 70s/lower 80s.

Heat hazard products are almost fully certain to be issued through
most of next week. Adequate precautions and awareness are
encouraged now against the elevated potential for heat illnesses.
Through all of next week, this includes (and is not limited to)
altering outdoor plans, taking frequent breaks if you must be
outside, checking the backseat of your vehicle, and knowing the
signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. /16/

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1238 AM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024

For the 23/06z TAFS...VFR conditions will prevail during the
period with periods of few to scattered mid to high clouds
streaming over the area, along with some afternoon CU. An
isolated shower or thunderstorm will be possible in our extreme
northern zones, which could move into the airspace at KTXK during
the last of the TAF period. Also, can`t rule out a stray shower
or two during the afternoon and early evening hours across the
remainder of the TAFS. However, confidence isn`t high enough to
include precip in any of the TAFS at this time. Otherwise, expect
light/variable winds overnight to become WSW around 5 kts this
afternoon, before becoming light/variable again after sunset
tomorrow. /20/
