478 FXUS64 KSJT 220844 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 344 AM CDT Sat Jun 22 2024 ...New LONG TERM... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Saturday) Issued at 159 PM CDT Fri Jun 21 2024 As of this afternoon, skies were partly cloudy with temperatures hovering around 90 and winds from the south at 10 to 15 MPH. Unlike the past few days an upper level ridge, currently located over the Tennessee Valley, has started to build in across central Texas. This feature should help to suppress most chances for rain today and tomorrow and allow warmer temperatures to occur. Another round of nocturnal stratus is expected to develop and build in late tonight across the Edwards Plateau and northwest Hill Country areas. This cloud cover should burn off by late morning. Other than a few showers along and south of the I-10 corridor this afternoon, precipitation is not expected through tomorrow evening. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday through Friday) Issued at 341 AM CDT Sat Jun 22 2024 Hot and dry conditions are in store for our area Sunday well into next week. An upper level ridge will be centered over Texas Sunday into the first part of the week, before retrograding a little farther west over New Mexico by midweek. The ridge is then progged to shift east to the Red River Valley around Friday. With the close proximity of the ridge and associated subsidence, no rain is expected temperatures will be above normal for our area with hot days and warm nights. Other than some early morning low clouds over our southern and southeastern counties, skies will mostly clear each day. Highs Sunday will be mostly in the mid to upper 90s. For the work week, expect much of the Concho Valley and Big Country to have highs 100-103 degrees, with mid to upper 90s in the Heartland and our southern counties. Afternoon heat indices are expected to be near to a few degrees above the ambient temperatures, most notably in our Big Country and Heartland counties. Morning lows will be mostly in the mid 70s for our southern and central counties, and generally in the upper 70s in the Big Country. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1230 AM CDT Sat Jun 22 2024 VFR conditions will prevail across KSJT and KABI through much of the TAF package, with the southern 3 terminals (KJCT, KBBD, and KSOA) likely falling to MVFR ceilings between 09Z and 17Z this morning. VFR conditions are expected across all terminals by 17Z at the latest. Generally light and variable winds overnight will become light and southerly by later this morning, ranging from 5 to 10 knots with a few gusts as high as 15 knots. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
