870 FXUS64 KSJT 140717 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 217 AM CDT Fri Jun 14 2024 ...New SHORT TERM... .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 215 AM CDT Fri Jun 14 2024 The benign pattern looks to continue for the short-term with longwave ridging extending northeast out of the Baja California region into Western Texas. Highs today will range from the lower 90s across our eastern counties to around 101 for western portions of the Concho Valley and Big Country. The "cooler" temperatures to the east will be due to higher dewpoints in the upper 60s to near 70 sticking around through the afternoon. As we move through today, the ridge will begin to weaken as a shortwave impulse moves out of the Southern Rockies and into the Texas Panhandle but any shower/storm activity associated with this should stay well off to our north and west. Overnight lows will be similar to the past few nights in the low to mid 70s under mostly clear skies. && .LONG TERM... (Friday night through next Thursday) Issued at 144 PM CDT Thu Jun 13 2024 An upper level ridge will develop over the area by Friday. A weak shortwave will move through the southern plains Saturday, but is not expected to result in any discernible change in our weather here. A large trough will develop over the western half of the U. S. by Monday, with ridging over the southeastern states, with the western periphery of this ridge holding over our area, keeping our forecast mainly dry and hot. Highs will average in the mid 90s to around 100 degrees, with lows mainly in the 70s. The next mentionable chance for precipitation isn`t expected until the second half of next week. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1202 AM CDT Fri Jun 14 2024 VFR conditions currently present across the area. A small deck of MVFR stratus will be possible for a few hours at KJCT during the morning hours but should quickly lift back to VFR. Otherwise expect VFR conditions to prevail across the area for the next 24 hours. Light south to southeast winds overnight will become more east/ southeast by the afternoon with a few sites seeing gusts in the 15- 18 kt range before decreasing again around sunset. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
