741 FXUS64 KSJT 200712 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 212 AM CDT Fri Sep 20 2024 ...New SHORT TERM... .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 212 AM CDT Fri Sep 20 2024 Expect hot and humid conditions today as a strong upper level high pressure ridge(current 500 MB temperatures around 0 deg C) remains over the Southern Plains. Heat Index values may reach 100 to 105 across much of the area for a few hours this afternoon due to low level moisture combining with the above normal temperatures. Highs will be 95 to 100. If you have to be outside, please follow heat safety precautions. Expect another warm and humid night with lows 70 to 75. && .LONG TERM... (Friday night through next Thursday) Issued at 157 PM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024 Above normal temperatures and dry conditions will continue on Saturday, as the upper ridge remains over the area. A pattern change will occur beginning Sunday, as the ridge breaks down ahead of a shortwave trough that will lift northeast across the southern Rockies Saturday night and into the central Plains by Sunday night. Associated weak cold is expected to affect the area Sunday night and early Monday, with rain chances increasing across the area. Carrying a low to medium chance for showers and thunderstorms Sunday into Monday. Still a rather uncertain forecast by mid week, as models differ regarding the timing and eventual evolution of another upper level trough to our west. Due to the uncertainty, will maintain NBM low to medium rain chances for Tuesday and Wednesday, with dry conditions for Thursday. Temperatures will be cooler as we head into next week, with highs mainly in the 80s and overnight lows mainly in the 60s. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1155 PM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024 Expect mainly VFR conditions for the next 24 hours. However, a few hours of MVFR ceilings are possible at the southern terminals Friday morning due to southerly flow and low level moisture. Expect south to southeast winds to be a little gusty Friday afternoon. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
