Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT
212 AM MDT Mon Sep 23 2024

.SYNOPSIS...Dry and mild conditions will persist as high pressure
builds across the Great Basin, with temperatures increasing to 5
to 15 degrees above normal by Wednesday.

&&

.SHORT TERM (Through 12Z/6AM Wednesday)...A weak disturbance will
graze by our area today, bringing some high clouds to much of the
area and breezy northwesterly winds up to 20-30 mph across Uinta
County, WY this afternoon. Otherwise, building high pressure
across the Great Basin will produce dry and mild conditions across
Utah and southwestern Wyoming. Summer isn`t quite ready to say
goodbye; temperatures will likely increase into the upper-80s
along the Wasatch Front and upper-90s in St. George by Wednesday.

.LONG TERM (After 12Z/6AM Wednesday)...With broad ridging
forecast by all members of all major ensemble systems through
Sunday, there isn`t much to say for most of the long term forecast
period. As one would expect, differences begin to creep in by
next Monday, with a minority of solutions bringing a deep trough
through the region. Among the solutions indicating a deeper
trough, the majority remain dry across the state.

Essentially a lot of words to say: near to above normal temperatures
and below normal precipitation look to be a near certainty through
at least Sunday if not next Monday.

&&

.AVIATION...KSLC...Light southeasterly drainage winds will continue
through the morning hours at SLC, with a switch to the northwest
expected between 1630-1730Z.

.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Mainly clear skies will be the
rule across most of Utah and southwest Wyoming today. Northern Utah
may see a bit of a northerly gradient today, however the remainder
of the region will see diurnal/terrain-based winds.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...High pressure will build across the Great Basin,
producing a warming and drying trend through at least Wednesday,
after which temperatures may stabilize or decrease slightly.
Precipitation is very unlikely over the next 7 days, and winds are
likely to remain terrain-driven. Min RH will approach critical by
Wednesday across most valley locations, with a decreasing trend
for overnight recoveries, too.

&&

.SLC WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
UT...None.
WY...None.
