Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT
224 AM MDT Tue Sep 24 2024

.SYNOPSIS...High pressure will bring above normal temperatures,
relatively light winds, and very low precipitation chances to the
Great Basin through at least the next week.

&&

.SHORT TERM (Through 12Z/6AM Thursday)...High pressure will build
into the Great Basin today, gradually shifting eastward before
settling over CO/NM by Wednesday. Temperatures will continue to
increase, likely peaking Wednesday afternoon around 5 to 15
degrees above normal. Although highs will approach 90F along the
Wasatch Front and 100F in Lower Washington County, daily records
may be hard to beat at both KSLC (93F) and St. George (103F).
Otherwise, precipitation chances will remain near zero and winds
will remain relatively light. Dare we say the "Q" word (quiet)?

.LONG TERM (After 12Z/6AM Thursday)...The vast consensus among
members of all ensemble system continues to be mean ridging will
remain across the region through at least Monday. A very weak dry
cold front may bring a reduction of 1-3 degrees across mainly
northern Utah Thursday afternoon. After that, the next hope for
any kind of pattern shift is toward middle to end of next week,
with around 20% of members showing a deep trough, 25% of members
showing continued ridging and the remainder some semblance of
zonal flow.

&&

.AVIATION...KSLC...Light southeasterly drainage winds will continue
through the morning hours at SLC, with a switch to the northwest
expected between 1800-1900Z.

.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Mainly clear skies will be the
rule across most of Utah and southwest Wyoming today. Expect terrain
driven winds for all terminals.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...High pressure will move overhead today, producing a
slight warming trend and light, terrain-driven winds. This high
will slowly move eastward, producing southwesterly flow and
further warming and drying on Wednesday. Minimum RH will fall
below 15% in most valleys, with marginal to poor overnight
recoveries. High pressure will likely persist, with no
precipitation chances over the next 7 days. Winds will largely
remain light and terrain-driven.

.SLC WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...

WY...None.
