Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
1041 AM PDT Thu Jul 10 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Hot and dry conditions will likely continue through the
weekend and into early next week as ridging persists across the
   region.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Today through the Middle of Next Week.

Ridging will remain generally over the area through the forecast
period, though the exact placement and intensity of the ridge will
vary at times. Through the weekend, long range ensembles are in
decent agreement that the area of high pressure will remain
somewhere over southern California. Slightly above normal height
anomalies will remain over the region through Saturday which will
result in above normal temperatures, light winds, and mostly sunny
skies. Sunday through early Tuesday, ensembles show the ridge
building eastward which will raise temperatures a few degrees. This
should be the hottest time period with high temperatures 5-8 degrees
above normal and Major (level 3 to 4) HeatRisk possible in desert
valley locations in Southern California and Southern Nevada on
Monday and Tuesday. After Tuesday, heights fall slightly as the
ridge potentially interacts with an easterly wave. This wave will
knock back temperatures a few degrees but will likely remain above
normal. In addition, if this wave is able to push far enough
westward, increasing moisture is possible through southern Nevada
and western Arizona. There is a low chance for precipitation Tuesday
afternoon but low confidence if rain will occur and what impacts may
result.

 .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast
Package...Northwest winds with intermittent gusts to 15 knots will
continue into the early afternoon before becoming light and variable
after 20Z. The typical southwest-to-west winds will develop around
00Z, and occasional gusts to 20 knots can be expected through mid-
evening. Light and variable winds return by daybreak, followed by a
more typical wind progression tomorrow, with northeast winds in the
late morning, southeast winds in the afternoon, and southwest winds
in the evening. Speeds tomorrow are expected to remain 8 knots or
less, except for random gusts to 15 knots during the afternoon due
to intense heating. VFR conditions will prevail through tomorrow at
the field. Reduced slantwise visibilities are possible along the
Beatty corridor due to smoke from a wildfire burning on the Nevada
Security Site.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Conditions at the Las
Vegas area terminals will be similar to those described for Harry
Reid, except winds at KHND will favor a more south-to-southwest
direction tomorrow. Elsewhere, northerly winds of less than 10
knots are forecast for KBIH through tomorrow morning before turning
southerly tomorrow afternoon. Gusty westerly winds will persist at
KDAG, with a typical decrease expected during the late morning and
afternoon hours. In the Colorado River Valley, southerly winds with
occasional gusts to 25 knots are expected during the late afternoon
and early evening, followed by light winds overnight. VFR conditions
will prevail through tomorrow across the region. Reduced slantwise
visibilities are possible across portions of southern Nevada and far
eastern southern California due to smoke from a wildfire burning on
the Nevada Security Site. &&

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
