Subject: Two New NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR)
Transmitters in the Texas Panhandle become operational:
Effective on or about October 1, 2024

Effective on or about October 1, 2024, NWR service will begin
from a new transmitter, Station WWQ50, located near Dalhart,
Texas and operating on a frequency of 162.425 Megahertz. In
addition, a second, new transmitter, station WWQ51, located in
Stratford, Texas and operating on a frequency of 162.525
Megahertz, will begin service. Both transmitters are operated
by the Amarillo, Texas Weather Forecast Office (WFO). The
transmitters will begin 24-hour broadcasts of weather forecasts
and weather warnings to better serve the residents of the
northwest Texas Panhandle, the Oklahoma Panhandle and
northeastern New Mexico. Some of these areas previously had
limited to no NWR reception.

Emergency Alert System (EAS) participants currently monitoring
other NWR transmitters for weather warnings should check to
determine if the new transmitters provide better reception.

NWR listeners using receivers equipped with Specific Area
Message Encoding (SAME) will want to program in the appropriate
SAME location code to receive automated notifications for
weather warnings.
