Young Chief, NWS Digital and Graphical Information Support Branch Subject: New NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) Broadcast Begins from Station KAE42, Providence Forge, Virginia on June 21, 2024 Effective June 21, 2024, NWR service will begin from a new transmitter located in Providence Forge, Virginia. Station KAE42, operating on a frequency of 162.500 Megaherz and served by the Wakefield, Virginia Weather Forecast Office, will begin a 24-hr broadcast of weather forecasts and weather warnings to better serve the residents of East Central Virginia, including western portions of the Peninsula and Middle Peninsula. NWR listeners in this region may wish to tune to station KAE42 to check if the station provides them with improved reception. Similarly, Emergency Alert System (EAS) participants currently monitoring other NWR transmitters for weather warnings in this region should check if the Providence Forge transmitter provides better reception. Weather forecasts and warnings for the independent cities, counties and marine zones listed below will be broadcast on KAE42. In addition, NWR listeners using receivers equipped with Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) will want to program in the appropriate SAME location code(s)to receive automated notifications for weather warnings.
