The NWS would like to thank local emergency management and local residents along the paths for the help with their survey. .Holdrege Tornado... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 95 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.71 miles Path Width /maximum/: 100 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/23/2024 Start Time: 11:30 PM CDT Start Location: 1 SW Holdrege / Phelps County / NE Start Lat/Lon: 40.4335 / -99.3832 End Date: 05/23/2024 End Time: 11:33 PM CDT End Location: 1 ENE Holdrege / Phelps County / NE End Lat/Lon: 40.4484 / -99.3575 Survey Summary: An EF1 rated tornado tracked catty-corner from southwest to northeast across Holdrege. Much of the damage was noted in trees throughout town. Some large trees were uprooted or snapped. A handful of garages sustained damage. The tornado winds initially damaged the garage door, after which some structural wall damage occurred. The peak wind speed was estimated at 95 mph based on the damage to both trees and structures along its nearly two mile path. .Heartwell Tornado... Rating: EF0 Estimated Peak Wind: 85 mph Path Length /statute/: 8.54 miles Path Width /maximum/: 60 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/24/2024 Start Time: 12:00 AM CDT Start Location: 3 NNW Minden / Kearney County / NE Start Lat/Lon: 40.5457 / -98.9707 End Date: 05/24/2024 End Time: 12:10 AM CDT End Location: 1 W Heartwell / Kearney County / NE End Lat/Lon: 40.5722 / -98.8152 Survey Summary: This EF0 rated tornado damaged a handful of pivots and some trees along its over 8 mile path. The peak wind of 85 mph was estimated based upon tree damage near the middle of the path. This tornado was also noted by a drop in the WSR-88D correlation coefficient product. The drop in the correlation coefficient coincides with the path, but damage was very limited. One possible theory is the lower correlation coefficient shown on radar was caused by corn stalks from several no-till fields lifted in the air by the tornado. .Palmer Tornado... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 95 mph Path Length /statute/: 7.11 miles Path Width /maximum/: 95 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/24/2024 Start Time: 12:09 AM CDT Start Location: 4 SE Cushing / Howard County / NE Start Lat/Lon: 41.2455 / -98.3131 End Date: 05/24/2024 End Time: 12:18 AM CDT End Location: 3 NE Palmer / Nance County / NE End Lat/Lon: 41.2673 / -98.1821 Survey Summary: This EF1 rated tornado started in extreme eastern Howard County and ended in extreme southern Nance County, but spent most of its travel time in Merrick County north and northeast of Palmer. There were several spots of tree damage along its roughly 7 mile path. The most significant damage was to an outbuilding and large cottonwood trees northeast of town. The maximum wind speed of 95 mph was estimated based upon the damage at this particular farmstead. .Silverlake Road Tornado... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 95 mph Path Length /statute/: 2.61 miles Path Width /maximum/: 80 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/24/2024 Start Time: 12:26 AM CDT Start Location: 4 NW Blue Hill / Adams County / NE Start Lat/Lon: 40.367 / -98.5084 End Date: 05/24/2024 End Time: 12:30 AM CDT End Location: 3 NNW Blue Hill / Adams County / NE End Lat/Lon: 40.3725 / -98.4605 Survey Summary: A short EF1 tornado moved across far southern Adams County just northwest of Blue Hill. This tornado had an estimated peak wind of 95 mph based upon damage to a large outbuilding at one farmstead. This included a large door buckling and the east side wall blowing out. There was extensive tree damage as well. Two pivots in particular were damaged, though there were several other pivots flipped in the nearby area. Eventually tornado skipped through another farmstead causing damage to a barn and trees. Unfortunately, three horses were casualties of the storm. Residents of both farmsteads which sustained damaged were quick to credit the Wire Emergency Alert received on their phone which told them of the tornado warning. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the events and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ NOAA/NWS/Moritz
