Tidal Potomac from Indian Head to Cobb Island MD...
Tidal Potomac from Key Bridge to Indian Head MD...
At 243 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts
were located along a line extending from 12 nm northwest of Mason
Neck State Park to 6 nm northwest of Gunston Hall to Indian Head,
moving northeast at 25 knots.
HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater.
SOURCE...Observed wind.
IMPACT...Boaters in small craft could be thrown overboard by
suddenly higher winds and waves capsizing their vessel.
Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally
hazardous seas.
Locations impacted include...
Smallwood State Park, National Harbor, Fort Washington, Tidal Basin,
Reagan National Airport, Gunston Hall, Mason Neck State Park, Woodrow
Wilson Bridge, Indian Head, Key Bridge, Occoquan Bay, Fort Hunt, and
Alexandria.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily
overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Seek safe harbor
immediately.
