.DISCUSSION...
The extended heat wave continues into Sunday, courtesy of a high
pressure system. While a stray thunderstorm cannot be ruled out in
the mountains this afternoon, clouds, and more numerous showers and
thunderstorms developing ahead of a cold front approaching from the
west Sunday will intercept heat indices in the lower to mid 90s early
Sunday afternoon, compared with the upper 90s to low 100s in many
lowland locations this afternoon.
Heavy downpours, damaging winds and small hail could accompany any
thunderstorm ahead of the front Sunday afternoon and evening. There
is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms in the middle Ohio Valley
Sunday afternoon and evening, with a marginal risk elsewhere. There
is also a marginal risk for excessive rainfall Sunday afternoon and
evening.
Relief from the mid to upper 90 degree temperatures comes on Monday.
Tuesday and Wednesday of next week will be hot, but another cold
front crossing Wednesday into Thursday, may bring showers and
thunderstorms, and another slight drop in temperatures.
