.DISCUSSION...
Gusty southeast winds are forecast for today and this evening. A
monsoon weather pattern has now developed with a chance for showers
and thunderstorms each afternoon and evening for at least the next
seven days. The potential exists for locally heavy rainfall Friday as
an upper level trough passing north of New Mexico draws precipitable
water values nearly 200 percent of normal over the wildfire. A few
storms may turn severe today and Friday with brief, localized, and
erratic wet microburst wind gusts potentially reaching up to 60 mph.
After Friday, rain amounts will generally be lighter with a
significantly lower risk of locally heavy rainfall. After a high
temperature around 5 degrees below the 1991-2020 average today
through Sunday, readings will rebound a few degrees above the
averages Monday and Tuesday.
