Sea Ice Forecast for Western and Arctic Alaskan Coastal Waters

ANALYSIS CONFIDENCE...Moderate to High.

SYNOPSIS...High pressure will prevail over High Arctic through the
weekend, then weaken on Monday. A series of low pressure systems
will moves east across the Aleutian Islands through Monday.

The main ice edge extends from near Wales to 64 51`N 167 53`W to 65
51`N 169 28`W to 64 23`N 172 18`W. The ice edge is open water. There
is also some areas of brash ice remaining to the east and
southeast of Saint Lawrence Island.

From land-based points in Alaska, the main ice edge extends from
near Wales to 45 nm south of Wales to 35 nm west of Wales to 125 nm
southwest of Wales. The ice edge is open water. There is also an
area of brash ice remaining to the east and southeast of Saint
Lawrence Island.

FORECAST FOR THE BEAUFORT SEA (DAYS 1 through 5)...Forecast
confidence is moderate. Easterly winds will shift to the northwest
on Friday, then become west for the weekend into Monday. Near-shore
ice will continue to degrade.

FORECAST FOR THE CHUKCHI SEA (DAYS 1 through 5)...Northerly to
easterly winds will persist through Saturday. Sea ice will gradually
move south through the weekend. During times of light and variable
winds, expect sea ice to move with local tides and currents.

PKZ806-Sledge Island to Wales out to 15 nm-
PKZ816-South side of Saint Lawrence Island out to 15 nm-
PKZ817-North side of Saint Lawrence Island out to 15 nm-
PKZ850-Etolin Strait to Kwemeluk Pass from 15 to 90 nm-
PKZ851-Southwest of Saint Lawrence Island from 15 to 100 nm-
PKZ853-Kwemeluk Pass to Kwikpak Pass from 15 to 90 nm-

FORECAST FOR THE BERING SEA (DAYS 1 through 5)...Ice south of the
Strait and near St. Lawrence Island will continue to melt and move
with currents and tides. Some areas of marginal ice coverage will
likely remain near Russia and Saint Lawrence Island through Saturday.
