036 FXUS64 KAMA 260516 AFDAMA Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Amarillo TX 1216 AM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Issued at 158 PM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 - Warm temperatures, dry conditions, and light winds continue to be the story for the forecast. - Brief cool down dropping highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s with a cold front on Tuesday. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Thursday night) Issued at 158 PM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 Strong well amplified high pressure will continue over the Four Corners and take a slight positive tilt this evening, before broadening across the southwest CONUS by Friday. The overall story of this setup is that we`ll remain in the 80s with winds 5-15 mph out the south and dry through Thursday night. Given the recovery from the previous cold front, and increased night time radiational cooling, our overnight lows are now right around normal in the lower to mid 50s. Weber && .LONG TERM... (Friday through next Tuesday) Issued at 158 PM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 High pressure continues to dominate the extended. However, we do have a weak frontal system that`s expected to clip the Panhandles on Tuesday. Prior to that front it looks like carbon copy days with highs in the 80s and lows in the 50s. Sunday into early next week an upper level trough will move across the northern CONUS and will only start to deepen and amplify after it crosses the Rockies. The focus of the colder airmass will be over the Great Lakes Region, but there will be enough of an airmass change to clip the Panhandles and keep our highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s on Tuesday. This system will rapidly exit mid next week and we`ll once again be replaced by another area of high pressure leading to temperature`s going back up. Weber && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1214 AM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024 VFR conditions are forecast to continue over the next 24 hours. Winds will mainly have a south component during this time frame with sustained winds under 10 kts. Clear skies look to prevail during this TAF cycle. Muscha && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
