...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT SOUTHERN SENECA...EAST CENTRAL
YATES AND SOUTHWESTERN CAYUGA COUNTIES THROUGH 630 PM EDT...
At 557 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Lodi Station, or 7 miles east of Penn Yan, moving east at 35 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Ledyard, Aurora, Ovid, Interlaken, Dresden, Lodi, Levanna, King
Ferry, Himrod, and Mays Mills.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
If on or near Seneca Lake, get out of the water and move indoors or
inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles
from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not
be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
