Drainage flow will weaken this morning, with a brief period of
light/variable winds. Guidance turns winds to a W/WSW direction by
late morning and continues with this direction through the day.
Convection is expected to get started a little sooner than the
past couple of days, with VCTS possible by 18z. Still low
confidence on coverage/timing of storms, but did bump up the start
of the PROB30 group to 19z as it looks like the peak period for
convection will generally be mid-afternoon.
A weak cold front is expected to shift winds out of the north at
the terminals between 06-09z. Forecast guidance hints at enough
low-level moisture for a brief period of stratus, but will likely
be dependent on today`s convective evolution. Have introduced some
FEW/SCT015 for Tuesday AM, but wanted to see this more
consistently before introducing any sort of MVFR cigs.

KALS: VFR conditions expected through 24 hours. Showers and storms
will move off of the nearby mountains into the vicinity of the
terminal around 18Z, lingering through about 00Z. Gusty outflow
winds and brief periods of precipitation near the terminal will be
possible. Winds will lighten later tonight and become more diurnally
driven.
KCOS and KPUB: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to
move in from the west by around 20Z, passing in the vicinity of both
terminals. Gusty outflow winds will be the primary concern today,
with strong storms putting out gusts upwards of 35 knots. If a storm
does manage to pass over a terminal, winds could become erratic with
moderate rainfall briefly limiting visibility. Convective activity
will wane into the evening hours, with winds weakening towards the
end of this forecast period.

Showers and thunderstorms are already ongoing across the area,
with a large shield of precipitation working its way northward.
This trend will continue through the day, with convection
becoming more widespread. Main threats will be heavy rains,
gusty winds, hail, and frequent lightning. A front dropping
southward through the area in the afternoon will bring an end to
activity for KVEL and KHDN, although another round of showers
and storms will be possible in this region tonight. VFR
conditions will prevail, but drops to MVFR and/or below ILS
breakpoints will be possible through the period.

.AVIATION...KSLC...A broken mid level layer is forecast through this
afternoon before parting. VFR conditions are expected to prevail
despite potential for light rain or a rain shower in the vicinity of
the terminal this morning. The wind forecast is the most challenging
aspect of todays forecast as a frontal boundary has passed but now a
band of showers and thunderstorms track toward the terminal early
this morning. A few hours of gusty northerly winds are forecast
alongside and just ahead of the band before decreasing and shifting
southerly around 14z.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Mid to high level clouds
are forecast across northern and central Utah today with a band of
rain showers tracking eastward across northern Utah this morning.
Impacts from this band are generally expected to be minimal with the
exception of LGU where brief reductions in visibility are possible.
Otherwise, VFR conditions are expected to prevail despite the rain.
Afternoon breezes are once again expected across southern Utah and
southwest Wyoming terminals with VFR conditions prevailing in these
locations.

VFR conditions to start the period for all TAF sites and should
remain so throughout. A cold front will push through the CWA
this morning with light rain showers at JAC shortly after the
start of the period for this morning. More widely scattered rain
showers and thunderstorms this afternoon with highest confidence
locations a tempo group after 20-21Z through about 01-03Z.
Lowest confidence only carrying VCTS during this timeframe at
LND, RIW, WRL, and RKS. Models indicate a sporadic coverage in
these areas but this should all diminish towards sunset.
Otherwise, mid level ceilings will lift to the upper levels
scattering out west of the Divide overnight with light winds
into Tuesday morning.

the latest information on smoke, icing, and turbulence
forecasts.

Forecast concerns with the 12Z TAFs will be low stratus in the
Panhandle and here at KCYS this morning...followed by
thunderstorms this afternoon. IFR this morning at most Nebraska
Panhandle airports and here at Cheyenne will break up after
sunrise. HRRR showing IFR/LIFR breaking 13Z to 14Z at all
airports. An early show for thunderstorms...starting late
morning and peaking around 00Z in the Panhandle. HRRR continues
to show KCDR and KSNY getting hit pretty good with strong to
possibly severe thunderstorms this afternoon. Went ahead with
TEMPO groups for these two airports. Hopefully...we get better
timing on other airports for the 18Z TAFs.

The main forecast challenge for aviation continues to be fluctuating
ceilings associated with passing showers and thunderstorms. Guidance
overnight has consistently brought lower ceilings than observations,
so have trended ceiling up more in line with observations. Another
round of showers and thunderstorms is expected across western and
north central Nebraska this afternoon and evening, though confidence
in timing and exact location remains low, so have omitted from TAFs.
Follow on forecasts may better resolve thunderstorms this evening,
however confidence may not increase until storms initiate.

For KGLD... VFR conditions are forecast for the period, but will
need to watch the first few hours for a quick round of fog/low
stratus with saturated low levels. The prior convection has
seemed to disrupt the stratus and fog that was present earlier.
For the rest of the morning and afternoon, winds will be a
little gusty from the southwest with a low taking shape. Around
22-02Z, the front and low are forecast to move through. This
will cause the winds to shift in direction multiple times and
potentially generate storms. Currently have storms near the
terminal from 23-01Z, but dry air may move far enough east to
hinder storm development. Once the main lines of storms pass,
relatively clear skies are forecast, but storms may linger
overnight (15% chance).
For KMCK... IFR conditions are forecast to remain until around
14Z. There is a chance that the ceilings could lift within the
first hour as a decaying line of showers moves near the terminal
from the west. The rest of the day is forecast to be VFR, until
showers and storms return this afternoon and evening as a front
and low move through the area. Winds may shift directions
multiple times as these features move through. From 21-03Z,
multiple rounds of storms will be possible, including severe
storms. Going into the rest of the night, VFR conditions are
forecast but will need to keep an eye out for any stray storms
that develop behind the main lines.

Surface observations across southwest KS reveal MVFR/IFR stratus
remains at DDC, GCK, and HYS, with LBL in VFR. Latest CONSShort
suggests cigs will rapidly improve from southwest to northeast
as the sun rises, allowing DDC and GCK to return to VFR by 13Z,
and HYS by 15Z. Otherwise, southerly/south-southwesterly winds
will increase shortly after sunrise into the 15-20 kt range with
gusts of 30 kts possible. After sunset Monday afternoon, these
winds will only weaken a few knots as the pressure gradient
across our area is maintained.

Latest guidance is still expecting surface winds to pick up at all
three terminals later this morning. Expect winds to be mostly out
of the southwest with gust nearing the 25 to 30 kt range with KGUY
expecting to see the highest speeds. These winds should last
through evening hours before slowing for the overnight. Meanwhile,
chances for showers and thunderstorms still exist for the western
portions of the Panhandles. However, confidence in any impacts to
terminals is too low for mention in current package. Otherwise,
VFR conditions continue for all three terminals.

A few showers are lingering across the northwest corner of the
state this morning and will begin to increase in coverage around
17Z. Numerous showers and storms today will focus along a
disturbance that will trek from southwest to northeast across the
forecast area. Convection will peak in coverage between 22Z and
05Z, although showers may linger through as late as 12Z in the
east. Wet microbursts and small hail may accompany any storms,
but will be most likely near the CO border where wind shear is
greatest. While VFR conditions will generally prevail, brief MVFR
to IFR conditions are possible with heavier showers and storms.
