Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
447 AM CDT Fri Jun 21 2024

Today:

An active period of weather continues this morning as a line of
showers and thunderstorms continues to move eastward across northwest
and north central Iowa. These storms will continue moving to the east
and may produce locally heavy rainfall. Elsewhere, calmer weather
prevails this morning with light winds from the south southeast.

Shower and thunderstorm chances continue for this afternoon,
especially across the northern half of the state. Repeated rounds of
rainfall may result in flooding concerns and rises in area rivers and
creeks. A Flood Watch is in effect for Iowa`s northernmost counties
until 1 pm Saturday. Severe weather is also possible with these
storms. High temperatures for today will be in the low 80s north to
low 90s across the far south.

Tonight and beyond:

Showers and storms continue for tonight into Saturday morning.
Continued rainfall across the north may worsen any potential flood
impacts. Strong to severe storms will also be possible later Saturday
afternoon and evening as a frontal boundary slides through the state.
Temperatures will continue to warm for the first half of next week
with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Heat indices may reach 100F
across the south.
