919 FXUS64 KEWX 282318 AFDEWX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 618 PM CDT Fri Jun 28 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Saturday night) Issued at 137 PM CDT Fri Jun 28 2024 A scattered deck of low cumulus remains across much of the area this afternoon with an isolated shower or two trying to make it over Lavaca, DeWitt, or Karnes County. Any precipitation would be short- lived and light with chances ending late afternoon. The main focus for today and tomorrow continues to be the heat with highs today in the mid 90s to the around 103 degrees with afternoon dewpoints in the 70s over the eastern half of the area. Forecast heat indices remain to be at or above 108 degrees mainly along and east of the I- 35 corridor where a Heat Advisory continues through 7 PM this evening. Low level moisture will allow for a more widespread cloud deck to develop overnight into Saturday morning keeping low temperatures a couple degrees warmer than those seen previous nights. Saturday will be mostly similar to today with increased dewpoints to the east which will bring back high heat indices. Another Heat Advisory has been issued for Saturday afternoon in the same locations as the one today, along and east of I-35. No rain chances are seen tomorrow. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday through Friday) Issued at 137 PM CDT Fri Jun 28 2024 The mid and upper level subtropical ridge axis remains the dominant weather feature through the upcoming weekend and well into next week. Temperatures will continue to remain above normal and we will likely see additional heat headlines into early next week based on the current forecast. Areas generally along and east of the I-35 corridor continue to be favored for additional Heat Advisory products given the the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity. Most areas will also remain dry into early next week given the strong ridging aloft. The exception will be near the coastal plains on Sunday when a few showers and storms are expected along the sea breeze. Some of this activity may get as far north as San Antonio, but we will keep rain chances very low (20%) at this time. As we head into the mid to late portion of the upcoming week, the center of the subtropical high slowly pushes into the southeastern U.S., with the medium range models showing mid and upper heights building over the desert southwest. While mid and upper heights may temporarily ease, there will be little change in the stout low-level thermal ridge axis. With this in mind, suspect temperatures will change little through the mid to late week period. Expect more above normal temperatures along with the possibility of additional heat headlines. The coastal plains could see some isolated showers and storms develop along the sea breeze, with dry conditions elsewhere. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 618 PM CDT Fri Jun 28 2024 VFR flying conditions start the forecast. MVFR CIGs develop overnight at the I-35 sites, then early in the morning at KDRT. Clouds mix to FEW VFR by midday at all sites. Breezy S-SE winds this evening become more stable overnight, then become breezy again on Saturday. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
