339 FXUS63 KGID 251112 AFDGID Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Hastings NE 612 AM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - High temperatures in the low to mid 80s are expected through the weekend with potentially cooler weather going into next week. - Dry weather is expected through the next 7 days. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 214 AM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 Today... Currently the forecast area (and really, the entire central Plains) are under northerly flow aloft in between an upper ridge centered over the Rockies and an upper trough centered over SE Missouri / southern Illinois. At the surface, high pressure is in place over the central Plains. This will lead to light winds and clear skies, with high temperatures in the low to mid 80s. Thursday and Friday... Both the upper ridge and trough will drift south and the surface high will move off to the east Thursday. A surface low will move into western South Dakota and western Nebraska Thursday, bringing breezy winds mainly to our northern and western counties Thursday afternoon. Sustained southerly winds of 10-15 mph with gusts to 20-25 mph will be possible. These will weaken going into the evening Thursday as the surface low weakens. Other than that, even with the tropical system and upper low rotating around each other bringing it slightly more northwest toward our area Thursday evening and Friday, it won`t be far enough and our area will remain dry. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 80s both days. Saturday and Sunday... The upper pattern will not change a lot, although the upper low will finally start to move further east toward the east coast by the end of the weekend. High temperatures are again expected to be in the low to mid 80s. Next Monday and Tuesday... Finally there is a potential change in the pattern. An upper trough is expected to move across the northern Plains Monday, pulling a cold front through with it. The main question is whether or not this really moves south far enough to significantly impact the area, especially with this being days 6 and 7 of the forecast. We are fairly confident this would bring about at least breezier conditions, although we still look to remain dry at this time. Temperatures would be the big uncertainty with this, with some model guidance keeping the area mainly in the 70s and 80s and other guidance cooling things down into the 60s by next Tuesday. That will have to be a wait and see situation for now. && .AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z THURSDAY/... Issued at 609 AM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 For KGRI/KEAR Airports: VFR conditions are expected through the TAF period. Expect a few cirrus clouds filtering through the area today, mainly this morning. Otherwise, skies are expected to be clear. Winds will be light and variable through most of the TAF period but will become more consistently southerly at around 5 kts toward the end of the period. && .GID WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
