In 1989, thunderstorms produced severe weather in the Southern and Central High Plains Region. Thunderstorms in Colorado produced softball size hail at Kit Carson. In 2000, an F1 tornado moved across open fields 10 miles southwest of Bird City Kansas damaging corn crop and an irrigation sprinkler system. The tornado was impressive visually, and could be seen from 20 to 30 miles away. The tornado path was approximately 3 miles long and 650 yards wide. $$
