Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Honolulu HI
306 PM HST Sat Jun 8 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
Gradually strengthening trades become moderate by tomorrow and
breezy by the middle of next week as dry conditions persist.

&&

.DISCUSSION...

Partly cloudy skies this afternoon as a very dry and stable
airmass characterized by an inversion height around 4kft remains
entrenched over the state. Trades strengthen to moderate by
tomorrow as the upper ridge centered directly overhead begins to
shift north and east through early next week. This in turn allows
the trade wind belt to strengthen and rebound northward over the
area bringing about a return to a more typical breezy trade wind
pattern by the middle of next week.

&&

.AVIATION...

Trade winds will have become locally breezy this afternoon and
will continue to gradually strengthen into Sunday. Shower
activity will remain limited with dry air and high pressure in
place over the region. A strong inversion will keep any ceilings
quite low, allowing for periods of MVFR conditions. Otherwise, VFR
conditions will prevail. No AIRMETs are currently in effect, nor
expected through tonight.

&&

.MARINE...

Elevated surf will continue along S facing shores for the next
week. A fresh pulse of long-period SSW swell will arrive Sunday
into Monday, and a High Surf Advisory remains posted for S facing
shores. This new swell will gradually diminish through midweek,
but additional pulses of S swell will arrive into next weekend.
Small N and NW swells will support small surf along N facing
shores the next couple of days. Tiny surf will prevail along E
facing shores, with a slight upward trend by midweek.

A surface ridge just N of the islands will move N and strengthen
through Monday, with trade winds strengthening to climatological
(moderate to locally strong) speeds. Little change is expected
thereafter. A Small Craft Advisory (SCA) has been issued for
waters around Maui County and the Big Island.
