located in Sheridan County, Northwest Kansas. The
thunderstorm produced hail for an astounding one hour and

half feet. Most of the hail was pea to marble sized.
The oval shaped hail swath was nine miles long, five
miles wide and oriented southwest to northeast. Prior to
the thunderstorm`s arrival, the temperature was 80
degrees, but at the peak of the event, the temperature
plunged to 38 degrees. The roofs of a few buildings
collapsed and countless trees were stripped of leaves.
In 1987, severe thunderstorms struck Southwest and
Central Kansas. Baseball sized hail pummeled Garden
