...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1995, the mercury in Wichita fell to 32 degrees, the
earliest freeze on record for the city.  In 2005, for the
first time in history, two hurricanes reached category 5
in the Gulf of Mexico in the same season, when Hurricane
Rita gained admission into the Fab 5 Hurricane
Fraternity.  The first that season was Hurricane Katrina.
