.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1013 AM EDT Fri May 24 2024

A beautiful and sunny start to the day across the Florida Keys
this morning. We have some showers across the outer Gulf waters
where east-southeast winds converged on northeast to east winds
coming off the mainland last night. These showers are gradually
waning and there are no additional showers being detected across
our CWA. Light winds and clear skies overnight led to some
impressive radiational cooling across the interior of our larger
keys. In fact, the RAWS at the north end of Big Pine Key
registered a low temp of 72 degrees around 6 AM, which was 10
degrees cooler than either Marathon or Key West!

Looking at satellite derived precipitable waters, we can see that
drier air is pivoting in from the east. This is evident on this
morning`s sounding which shows a pronounced dry layer punching in
around 700 mb. The PWat measured this morning was nearly a half
inch lower than this time yesterday. As such rain chances are near
nil for today and will remain as such. Daytime temperatures will
once again reach to near 90 and dew points look to hold in the
lower 70s. This combination will keep heat index below heat
advisory thresholds. Lastly, weak surface high pressure will keep
our winds light and possibly variable winds.

Light to gentle east to southeast breezes will
continue through the end of the week as high pressure will remain
in place. During the later half of Sunday, breezes will clock to a
southeasterly to south direction and modestly freshen as the high
pressure shifts its position.
