Through 900 am, numerous showers with some embedded thunderstorms will wax and wane across the Florida Keys island chain as well as the adjacent nearshore and offshore coastal waters to the north and south. Movement of this activity will be somewhat chaotic, but generally to the northwest to north at near 10 knots. Mariners encountering the stronger portions of this activity, mainly north of Key West in the vicinity of Snipe Point, can expect bouts of blinding downpours, wind gusts up to 20 to 25 knots, and occasional cloud to surface lightning strikes. Island communities may see an additional quarter to half of an inch of additional rainfall, with some locally higher amounts possible with stronger showers. $$
