Through 900 pm, scattered showers and thunderstorms will wax and wane across the Florida Keys as well as the adjacent nearshore and offshore coastal waters, with the strongest storms located in the distant Straits of Florida from south of Tortugas Ecological Reserve South to Alligator Reef Light. This activity will move generally to the northwest near 15 knots. Mariners encountering the stronger activity can expect wind gusts approaching 30 knots, reduced visibilities in heavy downpours, and a few cloud to surface lightning strikes. Rainfall amounts for the Middle and Upper Keys should generally be less than one quarter of an inch. $$ NB
